The Speaker of the House has created a committee for the purpose of addressing the fact that we have a housing shortage in New Hampshire and I was honored to be chosen to sit on the committee. Home building dips in recessions New Hampshire never bounced back, leaving us further and further behind each year. The House Special Committee on Housing has started to meet to try to understand what hand the government is playing in less development in housing so that we can propose to remove the thumb on the scale which makes the land unable or cost ineffective to develop the housing that the state so desperately needs.

We have already talked to the Realtors, Developers, Housing Action NH, and researchers about zoning. I know we will be seeking to talk with DES, Fire, Zoning, and are seeking people who might have information about how the government is getting in the way to come and testify to the committee. If you or someone you know might have experience or knowledge about how the government (not Federal as we don’t have power to effect that) is making home building more difficult or costly please reach out to me and I will get you in touch with our committee chair to see if we can set up a time to speak to the committee about the issues as the committee is in a phase of information gathering to see if any solutions present themselves.
